After swinging the axe on two Marvel shows in Iron Fist and Luke Cage earlier this month, Netflix has now cancelled another of its original series in the mockumentary comedy American Vandal, with the streaming service opting against a season three renewal.
“American Vandal will not return for a third season,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re very grateful to the creators, writers, cast and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix, and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor.”
The Emmy Award-nominated comedy adopted a “true crime” approach, with the first season exploring a high school prank where faculty cars were vandalised with phallic images, and the second detailing the spiking of a school cafeteria’s lemonade with laxatives by ‘The Turd Burglar’.
Despite the show’s cancellation by Netflix, producer CBS TV Studios is reportedly planning to shop the series to other outlets, with co-creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda and showrunner Dan Lagana having already plotted out a third season.
