The Naomi Watts-headlined psychological thriller series Gypsy has been cancelled by Netflix, with Deadline reporting that the streaming service has opted against a second season.
The cancellation comes as somewhat of a surprise given that Netflix has been in talks with the producers about a second run of episodes for some time, and a writers room has been up and running for the past month. There’s been no official word from Netflix as to why it has opted not to move ahead.
Gypsy stars Watts as Jean Holloway, a therapist who begins to develop intimate and illicit relationships with the people in her patients’ lives. Also featuring in the cast are Billy Crudup, Sophie Cookson, Lucy Boynton and Karl Glusman.
Netflix has recently renewed three of its other 2017 shows for second seasons in Iron Fist, 13 Reasons Why and GLOW.
