Whatever your feelings about what many critics labelled as one of the worst films of 2017 [read our review here], Bright was watched by a lot of people. In fact, the $90m Netflix blockbuster is the highest viewed film on the streaming service’s platform in first week of release.
Based on that, it’ll come as no surprise to learn that the studio have officially announced plans for the sequel, which will reunite Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, and director David Ayer (End of Watch, Suicide Squad). However, the writer of Bright, Max Landis (American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein), who was reportedly paid between $3-4 million dollars for his first script, will not be coming back. Instead the scripting duties will be performed by Ayer.

Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.
