Oscar-nominated actor Frank Langella has been fired from Netflix’s upcoming Edgar Allan Poe adaptation The Fall of the House of Usher following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment on set.
According to reports, the veteran actor had been the subject of on-set complaints, including making inappropriate sexual comments to a female co-star. This led to an investigation by Netflix, which resulted in Langella being removed from the eight-episode series after it was determined that he’d been involved in unacceptable conduct whilst at work.
The Frost/Nixon star had been cast as Roderick Usher, described as “the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty”. The role is now set to be recast, with Langella’s scenes reshot, and production will continue as normal with no delay expected. As yet, neither Langella nor Netflix have commented on the situation.
Based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher is created by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass) and features a cast that includes Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly and Mark Hamill.
