Netflix has a new franchise on its hands.
The 2022 film Troll is getting an upcoming sequel, as reported by Variety. The fantasy-action film starred Ine Marie Wilmann and was directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave). The director will return for the second entry, reteaming with writer Espen Aukan.
Troll became an instant hit for the streamer, as Netflix reported the film became their most popular non-English film of all time, with a record-breaking 103,000,000 views in its first 91 days. It would eventually rank in the Top 10 in 93 countries and topped the charts in Norway, the U.S., and the U.K.
Producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud tell Variety that “the second installment of Troll will be again spinning on a Norwegian fairy tale figure, played, directed, and produced by Norwegians.” Uthaug adds, “Making Troll was a lifelong dream come true, and the reception our Norwegian movie has received around the world has been unbelievable.”
The film will start shooting in 2024. Find the trailer for the first film below and prepare for this newly announced sequel…
