Having been passed on by Hulu back in March, the planned TV adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic book series Locke & Key has found a new home at streaming giant Netflix.
Deadline is reporting that Netflix is in final talks for a series order, although it will be redeveloping the project – and recasting two of the three Locke children – rather than picking up the existing pilot, which was directed by Andy Muschietti (It).
Locke & Key revolves around three siblings who move with their mother to their ancestral home in Maine following the gruesome murder of their father, and soon discover that the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. However, little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
Frances O’Connor (The Conjuring 2) stars as mother Nina Locke, while Jackson Robert Scott (It) is being retained as one of the three Locke children. Muschietti is currently busy with It: Chapter 2, so will not be available for directing duties on the new Netflix version, although he will remain as executive producer alongside Barbara Muschietti, Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) and IDW Entertainment’s Ted Adams and David Ozer.
Locke & Key has had a long road to the screen; FOx producing a pilot back in 2011 which failed to make it to series, while a feature film adaptation was also in development in 2014.
