According to Deadline, Netflix has emerged victorious in a bidding war for The Politician, a new hourlong comedy series from producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and their Glee co-creator Ian Brennan.
Attached to star in the series is Tony Award-winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen), with Oscar winners Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow also said to be in talks. The show has been granted a two-season straight-to-series order, in what is said to be the biggest TV package sale of the year.
According to the site, The Politician “revolves around the politician aspirations of Platt’s Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbarian, and every season will revolve around a different political race his character is involved in.” It’s said that each episode will include musical numbers from Platt, and production is expected to get underway this summer.
Paltrow previously worked with Murphy, Brennan and her fiance Falchuk with a guest starring role on Glee, which saw her winning an Emmy Award.
