Having racked up over a billion hours viewed on its way to becoming one of the most-watched shows on the service, the only surprise about the news that Netflix has renewed the live-action Addams Family spinoff Wednesday is the length of time it’s taken the streamer to make the announcement.
Below you’ll find the official season two announcement video from Netflix, which reveals that Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams will be returning to Nevermore Academy for more ooky adventures…
Created by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) and directed and executive produced by Tim Burton, Wednesday quickly became Netflix’s second-most watched U.S. show of all-time behind the fourth season of Stranger Things. It has amassed almost 1.25 billion hours viewed since its premiere in November.
Showrunners Gough and Millar recently teased what fans could expect from a second season of Wednesday, with the duo promising more of the wider Addams Family – and in particular Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Morticia – as well as addressing the fan-favourite ship of Wednesday and Enid.
The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester alongside a cast that also includes Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.
Wednesday is streaming now on Netflix.
