After dropping The Cloverfield Paradox onto the streaming service this past weekend, Netflix has now snapped up the worldwide distribution rights to another sci-fi thriller which had previously been set for a theatrical release.
Extinction stars Michael Pena (Ant-Man) and Lizzy Caplan (Allied) as a married couple, where the husband has a recurring nightmare of losing his family. That nightmare becomes a reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction, and fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep his family safe from harm.
Directed by Ben Young (Hounds of Love), Extinction had previously been at Universal Pictures, where it was due to open this past January before being pulled from the studio’s slate. Also featuring in the cast are Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Lilly Aspell (Wonder Woman), Emma Booth (Hounds of Love), Israel Brossard (Happy Death Day) and Lex Shrapnel (Captain America: The First Avenger).
