The Picture Of Dorian Gray is going the television route with a new adaptation being developed by Netflix, The Grays, which comes from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, written by Katie Rose Rogers.
It’s described as a contemporary take on the Oscar Wilde classic about our fascination with eternal youth set against the backdrop of the modern beauty industry. The series will offer a new twist on the gothic tale that revolves around siblings Basil and Doran Gray.
In Oscar Wilde’s novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Basil Hallward is one of the key characters alongside Dorian. He’s a talented and introspective artist who becomes deeply fascinated with the titular character. Basil paints a portrait of Dorian that captures his youthful beauty, and this portrait becomes a central symbol in the story.
To explain the familial bond added to the story, the project’s executive producers, series writer Katie Rose Rogers and Robbie Rogers, are siblings. They’ve previously worked together on Fellow Travelers.
No cast or directors are set for The Grays at the time of writing. Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for an update on the series.
