Netflix’s Extraction has a 12-minute action sequence shot as one continuous take

April 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Chris Hemsworth’s latest action film, Extraction, is releasing on Netflix this month and according to the actor, the film will feature a 12-minute sequence which has been filmed as a “oner” – which means it appears as the entire scene is shot in one continuous take.

Taking to Twitter, Hemsworth released a video discussing the 12-minute action set-piece that takes place in the film alongside director Sam Hargrave and co-producer Joe Russo while teasing several action sequences.

“By far the most complicated action sequence I’ve ever been part of, and if it wasn’t already complex enough, our director decided to shoot it as a “oner” — almost 12 minutes long and it’s about as exhausting to watch as it was to film,” Hemsworth tweeted.

When filming a “oner”, stunt teams can’t be used instead of the actors, meaning Hemsworth and the rest of the cast had to perform the sequences themselves to maintain the continuous structure.

Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.

Extraction arrives on Netflix on April 24th and features a cast that also includes Rudraksh Jaisawl, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, Priyanshu Painyuli, and David Harbour.
