Netflix’s One Piece renewed for season 2 after record-breaking streaming debut

One Piece is returning for another outing out on the open sea. The new Netflix streaming hit has been renewed for a second season.

In a new video released by Netflix, fans are greeted by Eiichiro Oda as he appears to make the announcement. Oda tells the viewers in a bizarre new video: “It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it. Two weeks after its launch, I’ve received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show.”

With the intense process of translating the long-running manga and anime into live-action, there’s also the matter of the WGA strike, which is why the creator notes this second season will take some time to hit Netflix. Inspired by the manga series, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Motivated by his desire to become King of the Pirates, Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy must assemble the crew he’s always wanted and find a ship to sail.

Featuring in the cast of One Piece are Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, alongside a cast that also includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

One Piece is now streaming on Netflix.
