Neve Campbell is returning as the iconic Sidney Prescott and is happy about Scream’s future.
In an interview with People, Campbell says: “I’ve lived with Sidney for 30 years, and I’m really, really grateful to get to go back to it.”
Campbell had a falling out with the studio behind the recent Scream reboot, Spyglass, which caused the actress to sit out on Scream VI.
With the franchise experiencing a massive shakeup, with multiple directors stepping away and the two lead actresses Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega both leaving, Campbell is back.
“I’m really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about [Scream VI negotiations] not feeling respectful,” she tells People. “When they first approached me [for Scream VII], I thought, ‘I don’t know what respectful looks like to them. We might be in very different places.’ But they started out in a strong place, so that was lovely.”
The way things are working now, Campbell is just grateful she was heard, and it makes her hopeful for the future. “It feels nice to have put that out into the world and to have been listened to and to have made a difference in that way,” she says. “I hope other people get that opportunity, too.”
The actress is also very optimistic about the future, saying she’s excited to see what longtime Scream writer Kevin Williamson does in the director’s chair. “I’m really excited that Kevin Williamson is going to direct,” says Campbell. “I think he’s been wanting to do it for years, and he deserves it. This is his baby. He’s going to do a phenomenal job.”
Scream VII is currently in pre-production. Courteney Cox is also returning alongside Campbell and Scream 3 actor Patrick Dempsey is rumored to return as Sidney’s husband Mark Kincaid. Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more on this and more horror films…
