Long time fans of the Scream franchise can breathe easy now, as Bloody Disgusting has confirmed Neve Campbell is coming back for the next movie. After months and months of talks about returning, Campbell is coming back to the role of Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream relaunch.
In a statement today, filmmakers Radio Silence expressed their joy about Neve Campbell’s return, stating: “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies, and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve, and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”
Sidney Prescott herself, Neve Campbell, gave her blessing on the reboot of the iconic Wes Craven franchise and confirmed her role. “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect, and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”
The new Scream will see Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not) tackle a script from James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Campbell will join previously announced franchise staples David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who are returning as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, respectively. They are joined by franchise newcomers Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega.
The fifth theatrical film in the Scream series is set for release on January 14th, 2022, which marks the franchise’s return to the holiday season window.
