No matter the drama around the Scream franchise, it seems that Neve Campbell will never turn her back on it.
The slasher franchise has lost its two new lead actresses, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, as well as its Scream VII director Christopher Landon.
But it seems like Campbell knows that she has a place in the franchise, after leaving Scream VI in a pay dispute. During a recent event, she says there’s a way to return.
At the BAFTA Tea event this past week, Campbell tells Variety she could see herself returning someday “under the right circumstances.”
Even with the drama, with or without her, the actress wants Scream to carry on positively. “I honestly don’t have no idea what their plans are,” she said. “I know a lot has gone on around it, and I’m sure they’re spinning a little bit at the moment.”
She adds, “These movies mean a lot to us, and they mean a lot to the fans. I go to these conventions sometimes, and I meet the fans, and they’re frantic about these films. They love them. These films mean a lot to them, and these characters mean a lot to them. So even for their sake, I would love to see it continue.”
In a separate interview with IndieWire, Campbell says: “It’s sad to me that they’re struggling at the moment. I would imagine that the people at the top are spinning a little bit, trying to make the right decision. I think I would imagine people want to do the right thing. I would hope. I love this franchise. I love it for Wes [Craven]. I love it for all the people who’ve been involved and even the newer cast. I would hope it doesn’t fall apart.”
