Scream 5 is slowly building up anticipation as we see directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett begin to shape their vision for the film. And it seems that their take on the iconic slasher series will likely align with the Wes Craven originals as franchise lead Neve Campbell wants to honor the horror legend with the next instalment.
In a recent interview with Collider, Neve Campbell opened up about Scream 5 and the creative process behind it. Though she’s not fully on board with the film yet, she’s loving what the duo are cooking up:
“Well, I’m not a hundred percent on it, but to be honest, the two directors (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) have made some great work. I’ve watched their films, and they’re really talented,” says Campbell.

Campbell continued to discuss how the filmmakers approached her about working on the fifth Scream film, adding:
“They wrote a letter to me, expressing what great fans of Wes’ work they are, and how honored they are that they’re getting the chance to make Scream 5 because the Scream franchise is the reason that they’re directors now. So, that was really sweet. They really wanna honor Wes’s style of work and honor the movies. That was a lovely thing to hear. So, we’ll see. Hopefully, we can all see eye to eye on everything and make something great, but it’s a process.”

For long-time fans of the series and the director Wes Craven, it’s nice to see that everyone involved is looking to take special care with this project. Trying to move a franchise in a new direction, while still paying tribute to the past is no easy task, but Neve Campbell seems to have faith in the future.
