New Adam Warlock image from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teases a bright & brutal MCU future

January 17, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock is part of the new breed of MCU characters in 2023. Along with Kang, Adam Warlock promises to be key to the future of Marvel’s Multiverse phase.

As we get a better look at Poulter’s version of the character, he is clearly gearing up to be a formidable foe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While some questioned the decision to cast the young actor in the role, this new look at Adam Warlock backs up James Gunn’s choice. In a new interview, the director delved into the casting process and what brought him to Will Poulter instead of a more established actor.

Gunn tells Empire that Poulter had the youthful energy needed for this role. The filmmaker explains, “People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock.’ I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future…He could become this really important character.”

Gunn explains where Adam Warlock will stand in the MCU, noting he could have an evolution, but he’s fairly new to life when we meet him in Vol. 3.

“He’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby,” says Gunn.

Adam Warlock will face off with the Guardians of the Galaxy this May.

Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the return of Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Sylvester Stallone (Stakar Ogord) and Elizabeth Debecki (Ayesha), alongside MCU newcomers Will Poulter (Dopesick) as Adam Warlock, Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker) as the High Evolutionary, Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) as Cosmo the Spacedog, and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) and Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set for release on May 5th 2023.
