BBC Audiobooks have released details of Doctor Who audiobooks coming to listeners this autumn. There are three new adventures coming for fans of the Fifteenth Doctor, as well as an adventure for the Eighth Doctor and Fourth Doctor companion Harry Sullivan gets his own spin off adventure.
Starting with the Fifteenth Doctor’s new adventures, fans can join the Doctor and Ruby Sunday in On Ghost Beach (written by Niel Bushnell and read by Susant Twist) where the pair arrive County Durham in 1958. Seaham Chemical Beach used to be home to heavy industry and although now abandoned, it doesn’t stop the locals from having nightmares and witnessing apparitions. When the same starts happening to the Doctor and Ruby, questions of the significance of Ghost Beach, whose memories are filling everyone’s heads and who is Reg? On Ghost Beach will release on 7th November.
Sting of the Sasquatch by Darren Jones and read by Genesis Lynea takes the Doctor and Ruby Sunday to a National Park in North-West America where they are chased by ape-like creatures. When Ruby is stung and kidnapped the Doctor is determined to save her and uncover the mystery of the Sasquatch. This will also release on the 7th November.
Finally for the Fifteenth Doctor, Eden Rebellion (by Abi Falase) takes the Doctor and Ruby to the peaceful planet of Yewa, but someone is stirring up trouble between Yewa and their sister-world of Bia. Can the duo get to the bottom of the trouble and stop it before it shatters the peace and tranquillity of the planet. Eden Rebellion is also read by Genesis Lynea and will release on the 11th November.
A new adventure for the Eighth Doctor is The Force of Death by Andrew Lane, which takes him to 1890’s Galway, where he is working undercover to investigate the mysterious sinking of the RMS Majestic. Witnesses claim a huge object crashing into the sea and causing a massive wave to overturn the vessel but when the Doctor discovers animated corpses stalking the area and the presence of aliens, he soon realises that the lives of everyone in County Connemara are at risk. Fans can download this from BBC Audiobooks on the 3rd October.
On the 5th December, Christopher Naylor will read Harry Sullivan’s War by Ian Marter. After leaving the Fourth Doctor and UNIT Harry has been carrying out top secret work, developing antidotes to nerve toxins etc, but when he is moved to the Hebrides for weapons research he has sore misgivings. Who wants Harry out of the way and is the Brigadier involved in the plot?
Finally, for those who want a bit of non-fiction, Pull to Open by Paul Hayes (read by Christopher Naylor) tells the fascinating story of how the BBC created and released Doctor Who. Doctor Who fans can go back to 1963 (not literally) and listen to how a chain of events led to the creation of one of Britain’s most successful programmes. Pull to Open will be available on 7th November.
