With the live-action Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins opening in North American cinemas this week, it’s been revealed that the franchise is set to return to its animated roots next year with the launch of a brand new series.
As reported by fan site Hiss Tank, the announcement was made during Licensing Con Brazil, with Hasbro Brazil’s Head of Licensing Marcelo Masotti revealing that the as-yet-untitled series will launch in 2022, with a second season already in the works for 2023.
While no specific details were revealed, the announcement included a sizzle reel which featured a very brief glimpse at the character designs for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, described by the site as “brand new and futuristic”.
It’s been over a decade now since we last had a new G.I. Joe animated series, and so this news should certainly prove intriguing to fans. In the meantime, Hasbro did kindly make most of the classic 80s series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero available to watch for free on YouTube last year.
