A24 has announced the Christmas release date of their tragic true-story wrestling drama The Iron Claw by giving us a new look at the cast, which includes Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White.
Directed by Martha Marcy May Marlene‘s Sean Durkin, The Iron Claw focuses on the tragic, true story of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of professional wrestlers who made history in the sport in the early 1980s. The brothers had to battle inside the ring, but outside they were plagued with a series of tragedies that became known as the “Von Erich curse.”
In The Iron Claw, Zac Efron plays Kevin Von Erich, while The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White portrays Kerry Von Erich, alongside Where the Crawdad’s Sing‘s Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich. Mindhunter‘s Holt McCallany is Fritz Von Erich, with The Affair‘s Maura Tierney as Doris Von Erich, and Cinderella star Lily James as Kevin’s wife Pam.
The Iron Claw faces a battle similar to those bouts at the heart of the film by going up against Illumination’s animated duck adventure Migration, and Warner Bros. and DC Film’s long-delayed Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom when it hits theatres in the U.S. on December 22nd.
