A few days ago a shortlist of directors emerged for Marvel’s first female-headlined superhero movie Captain Marvel, and now it seems we may have an additional name, with Jeff Sneider stating on Meet the Movie Press that Electrick Children helmer Rebecca Thomas is also in contention.
Thomas has two high-profile gigs on her upcoming slate, with the director attached to Universal and Working Title’s The Little Mermaid, as well as Paramount’s John Green adaptation Looking for Alaska. She reportedly joins a list of final candidates that include Niki Caro (Whale Rider), Lesli Linka Glatter (Ray Donovan) and Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World).
The initial report suggested that the final contenders will be pitching their take on the project to Marvel in the coming weeks, so hopefully we won’t have too long to wait before we learn who’ll be getting behind the camera to direct Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.
Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8th 2019.
