New Supergirl TV series details

September 5, 2014 by James Garcia

Yesterday news broke that a Supergirl TV series was in development, from DC Comics writer Michael Green. Green worked on the Supergirl New 52 relaunch and has worked on shows like Smallville and Gotham, so his involvement certainly made sense. However, new reports have since surfaced from several of the trades, debunking Green’s involvement and providing a few updates.

According to Deadline, Green is not involved in the series at all. Instead, they’re reporting that The Flash producer Greg Berlanti has teamed with frequent collaborator Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and DC Comics chief creative officer Geoff Johns.

The series is being pitched to networks now, and will not be airing on the CW. The network may house Arrow and The Flash, and was the first company approached for the series, but they apparently passed. That means that despite fan desire to see Laura Vandervoort reprise the role from her Smallville days, that’s not likely to happen as that was a CW series.

Supergirl (which THR claims will not be the official title) is described as “a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story.” Adler will pen the script.

We’ll have more updates about Supergirl (or whatever it will end up being called) as they become available.
