Paramount+ is looking to make its mark in the world of streaming, and they will use cartoon nostalgia to do so. Today, we’ve learned that the streaming service will bring live-action adaptions of two of Nickelodeon’s classic cartoons to life.
During Paramount+’s investor presentation, news broke that Dora the Explorer and The Fairly OddParents would be getting live-action reboots. Little details are known about the projects at this time but will be a centerpiece in the streamer’s attempt to reach Nickelodeon’s core kids audience.
Dora the Explorer premiered on Nickelodeon on August 14, 2000, and ran for eight seasons before ending in 2019. The series follows a young Latina girl named Dora as she goes on adventures with her monkey friend Boots, her cousin Diego, and various other magical friends. The series saw a recent live-action feature film named Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which reports say the series will use as an inspiration.
The Fairly OddParents follows Timmy Turner and his two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda. With neglectful parents and a malevolent babysitter named Vicky, the hilarious fairies grant his every wish – usually leading to insane hijinks. The original release of the animated series ran from March 30, 2001 – July 26, 2017.
Both animated kid’s series will be available on Paramount+.
