Before he took on the role of Marvel’s Johnny Blaze for Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Nicolas Cage came close to portraying the Man of Steel, having spent a couple of years attached to the title role in Tim Burton’s ultimately-abandoned reboot, Superman Lives.
During an interview with Variety, Cage was asked whether he can still see himself donning the tights as Superman one day, and – as you’d expect – he believes the time has well and truly passed, responding simply: “No, not at all.”
Whether he’d be interested in voicing the character in that rumoured animated adaptation… well, who knows?
Cage also went on to give his opinion on the latest DC blockbuster Justice League, stating that: “I thought it was fun. That’s all I’m going to say.”
The interview also turned to Cage’s much publicised love of comic books, and whether he has any interest in appearing in another comic book movie:
“The comic book thing with me is a little blown out of proportion with the Internet. I grew up reading them and I always knew they would be — like once technology would be there, they would be the front of entertainment. I don’t want you to get the wrong impression, that I’m sitting around reading comic books all day. I’ve kind of moved on. I don’t want to sound pompous and tell you what I read. My father was a professor of literature and he exposed me to Aldous Huxley, Hermann Hesse, and it goes on and on. So I like fiction, I like novels. But to answer your question, I would if I felt I could do something with the part.”
