For those of you who have been performing incantations for a quarter-of-a-century in order to make it happen, the dark magic has worked, because Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are in talks to return for a sequel to 1998 cult classic Practical Magic.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the A-list duo are are also set to produce Practical Magic 2 alongside Denise Di Novi, who also produced the original.
Released in 1998, Practical Magic was based on Alice Hoffman’s book of the same name, and told the story of two orphaned witch sisters (Bullock and Kidman) who are raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, and face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love.
Directed by Griffin Dunne (The Accidental Husband), the $75 million-budgeted film was met with negative reviews from critics, only managing to scrape back $46 million at the domestic box-office and $68 million worldwide. However, since the film’s release it has garnered a cult following, with rumours of a sequel bubbling away for years.
Plot details are obviously shrouded in secrecy, but A Beautiful Mind and Batman & Robin scribe Akiva Goldsman will return to pen the screenplay for the sequel.
