One of the coolest parts of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight was the scene where Batman flips on his glowing white lenses towards the end of the film to aid him in a particularly hectic fight. The upgrade was a direct nod to the comics, and animated series, where Batman, and his extended Bat-family are often portrayed with white phantom eyes. It has always served to give the characters an intimidating presence in the comics, but it’s obviously a hard feature to replicate on-screen.
Interestingly, if Nightwing director Chris Mckay has anything to say about it, Dick Grayson’s costume may have these white lenses as a permanent feature. On Twitter yesterday, Chris Mckay was tagged in a post by a fan declaring that every Bat-family member should have white lenses on screen from now on. This was Mckay’s response:

That seems like quite the endorsement on Chris Mckay’s end, though he may not have final say on costumes. It wouldn’t exactly be unreasonable. After all, this is not the first time we’ve seen the glowing eyes in the DCEU: Ben Affleck sported a fetching pair in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hopefully we will get some concrete details regarding the Nightwing solo film very soon.
