The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has today announced the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards, with Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the pack with nine nods apiece, followed by The Imitation Game with eight.
The two films will contest Best Picture against American Sniper, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything and Whiplash, while Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman) and Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel) are also up for Best Director alongside Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and Richard Linklater (Boyhood).
British stars Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) and Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game) all feature in the acting categories, while Meryl Streep racked up her nineteenth nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actress for Into the Woods.
