Avast ye! Sea of Thieves ensures that all you budding seafarers out there can communicate with or without a headset. The non-verbal communication system is currently accessible via the d-pad on a controller and presents a stock set of phrases that are key to piratin’ in Sea of Thieves. This may sound limiting, however all interactables in the game will have a set of contextual phrases that are unique to the situation at hand – for example, if you’re at the wheel and you need your crew to ‘raise the sails’ or ‘drop the anchor’. If you are headset-shy or physically unable to partake in voice chat, this feature will enable the player to participate fully with all of the necessary communication to hand. Squawking at someone of a different nationality in non-verbal comms? No matter, as the phrases automatically translate to your crewmate’s native language!

This and many other additions are due to be made available soon to players in the Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha. Anyone is free to sign up to the Insider Programme for a chance to play in these sessions ahead of the game’s early 2018 launch.
