Nosferatu director Robert Eggers confirms extended cut coming to Blu-ray

January 4, 2025 by Gary Collinson

As Nosferatu continues its global roll out following its Christmas Day release in the United States, director Robert Eggers has confirmed that fans will be able to enjoy an extended cut of the hit gothic horror reimagining when the film arrives on Blu-ray in the coming months.

Speaking to Esquire to coincide with its UK release this week, Eggers discussed a silhouetted shot of Bill Skarsgard’s Count Orlok which appeared in the trailer but was absent from the final film, stating that:

“The first shot is a funny one because it’s one of those annoying things for film dorks because it’s not in the movie. It’s a really cool shot, we really like the shot but where it was intended it was actually ruining some tension to know that Bill was around when we needed to keep him more mysterious. But if you wish to purchase the Blu-ray, it is in the extended version of the film.”

Test screenings for Nosferatu were said to have had a running time of around 3 hours, which means there’s around 50 minutes of footage on the cutting room floor, giving Eggers plenty to play with for his extended cut, which is already being promoted on pre-order listings…

Robert Eggers’ NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

The film stars Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe.
