Robert Eggers is having one of his most significant moments in the mainstream with the monster movie Nosferatu. Now, the filmmaker will follow it up with another iconic creature.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Eggers is set for a new film called Werwulf. Eggers co-wrote the project with Sjón, who is known for their collaboration on The Northman. Per THR, both men will produce alongside Focus Features. Chris and Eleanor Columbus, who worked with Eggers on Nosferatu, will executive produce.
Little is known about the project, but it’s said to be set in 13th-century England. The script features dialogue that is true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those who are uninitiated in Old English. It was also reported that Eggers intended to shoot the feature in black and white, but it seems that is no longer true.
At the time of writing, there’s no actors attached to the project. Eggers has teamed with Ralph Ineson and Willam Dafoe for most of his projects, so fans expect both to return again.
Eggers’ latest film, Nosferatu, is a smash hit. The film, starring Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Bill Skarsgard, grossed $156 million worldwide, becoming Eggers’ highest-grossing movie.
Werwulf is set for release on Christmas Day 2026.
