Oliver! star Ron Moody dies aged 91

British actor Ron Moody, famous for playing Fagin in the classic 1968 version of Oliver!, has died aged 91.

The actor was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film, as well as winning the Golden Globe the same year. In addition, Moody also appearaed in Eastenders and Disney’s A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, as well as various other UK television series.

His widow Therese said he would be “greatly missed”, stating that: “He brought joy to his family and to the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. He was singing until the end.”

Born on January 8th, 1924 in Tottenham, North London as Ronald Moodnick, Moody played Fagin in the 1960’s musical version of the Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist, before bringing the character to such wonderful life in the film version.
