Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) has signed on to lead the cast of HBO and Sky’s Landscapers, a murder mystery limited series from director Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants).
Written by Colman’s husband Ed Sinclair, the series is inspired by real events and will tell the story of Susan (Colman) and Christopher Edwards, a mild-mannered couple from Mansfield who murdered Susan’s parents and buried them in their back garden, their crime going undiscovered for over a decade.
The four-part series is described as “a blackly comic true-crime drama”, which will pivot “through various perspectives from Susan and Chris, to the police officers and lawyers involved in the investigation, and explore how the pair cast themselves as Hollywood heroes in their own story.”
“I love Ed’s scripts, which is just as well as he cooks many of my meals,” said Colman. “No, the truth is it’s quite rare to be desperate to play a part on the first reading of a script, but that was the case here. The writing is brave, but subtle and tender too – a joy for any actor.”
Filming on Landscapers is set to get underway in 2020.
