Microids has announced that they will be releasing Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission on 21st September on PC and consoles. Based on the cult arcade game released by Taito in 1987, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission features a whole new art style while remaining faithful to the original game’s horizontal scrolling rail-shooting action.
Developed by Virtuallyz Gaming initially as a VR title, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission takes players to the 80s for a non-stop thrill ride of shooting, grenade throwing and more shooting as enemies invade the screen from every direction.
The game features a solo or coop campaign where players will fight a powerful criminal organisation led by the mysterious General Viper. The organisation is heavily involved in drugs and weapons trafficking but has also recently developed a deadly new weapon. Players will need to fight their way through these enemy bases one by one, free the numerous hostages that have been taken and destroy the weapon before Viper has the chance to use it.
This game will feature:
- A brand new art style.
- Six action packed levels playable by one or two players.
- A survival mode.
- A huge arsenal of different weapons, including shotgun, SMG and grenade launcher.
- All the non-stop action of the original game.
Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission will release digitally and as a retail Day One Edition on 21st September on PS4, Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It will also be released digital only on Xbox One, Xbos Series X/S and PC on the same date. Those wanting to play the VR version can purchase the game now from Steam VR, Meta Quest 2, PlayStation VR 2, Pico 4 , GOG or the Epic Game Store.
