Lovers of the Orphan franchise, fear not. We are venturing back to another twisted Esther installment very soon.
Director William Brent Bell recently spoke to THR regarding his new film Lord of Misrule, and he couldn’t stop himself from teasing a third Orphan film, which is now actively in development.
Following the cult classic original film and the recent follow-up Orphan: First Kill, Bell is on a bit of a role with the franchise, and he looks to keep up that momentum. Bell tells THR they want to keep things going, saying, “We really can do it, and we’re only going to get better at it. And Isabelle loves it so much.
“We’re developing a third one now. The franchise’s rulebook has been opened up to where anything is possible,” Bell says. “And knowing where we are in the process already, I’m extremely excited about the twists and turns that we have in store.”
As the franchise attempts to top themselves regarding twists, the filmmaker says they plan something fun for fans. “Absolutely. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-created the first one with Alex Mace, was very much involved in the second one, and he was like, ‘The Orphan movie is about the twist. That’s what it has to have.’ Knowing where we are in the process already, I’m extremely excited about the twists and turns that we have in store.”
William Brent Bell is promoting his new folk horror film Lord of Misrule, which is now available in movie theaters and on VOD. As for Oprhan: First Kill, the film is now streaming.
