Oscar Isaac and Olivia Munn discuss their X-Men roles as Apocalypse and Psylocke

July 18, 2015 by Gary Collinson

20th Century Fox gave us a peek at X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this week with a series of official stills [see here and here], which included our first look at two new additions in Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse and Olivia Munn’s Psylocke.

While Psylocke’s look seemed to go down well with fans, the same couldn’t be said for Isaac’s titular villain, and the actor spoke to EW this week about how they came about with his design:

“We had to do some adjustments here and there and be like, alright, maybe this is too alien. He also is someone who people would want to follow and not just be terrified of. So the balance, and then making sure that there’s some great elements from the comic but also making our own thing as well. In the comic, he generally is like 12 feet, 600 pounds.”

Meanwhile, Olivia Munn also offered up a few words about her character, costume, and an early wardrobe malfunction:

“Psylocke’s outfit or uniform or suit or whatever you want to call it is very sexual,” Munn explained. “I’ve got like my thigh-highs and a halter, but the thing about that, and that was important, is that it doesn’t matter what I’m wearing as long as we’re all aware of who she is. She’s very strong and she’s very lethal and she’s very powerful, and it doesn’t really matter what she’s wearing as long as you have that strength and that presence. [The costume] fits like a glove, but it’s kind of hard because there’s been times where I’m pulling and it pops like a balloon, which did happen day one. Day one, I was like, ‘Uh, guys, uh, do we have a backup? Sorry I popped my crotch.'”

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 19th, 2016 in the UK and May 27th, 2016 in the States. The cast includes X-Men veterans James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert) and Lucas Till (Havok) along with newcomers Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Apocalypse, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan (Mud) as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp (House of Anubis) as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Nightcrawler, Ben Hardy (EastEnders) as Angel, Olivia Munn (Magic Mike) as Psylocke and newcomer Lana Condor as Jubilee.
