Oscar Isaac “loved” the divided reaction to Poe’s arc in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

August 29, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Oscar Isaac has revealed that he “loved” the backlash to his character Poe in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

One of a number of things that irked a section of Star Wars fans about The Last Jedi was the actions of Oscar Isaac’s character Poe Dameron. Some fans weren’t happy with how his character was kept in the dark about the Resistance’s escape plan from the First Order.

But the anger that some fans felt about these scenes doesn’t bother Isaac, who spoke to Yahoo! Entertainment about the subject, telling them that he was pleased with the response:

“I love that. It’s incredible, because you have people actually engaging with the ethical question of war and what leadership is. The last thing you want is for people to watch a movie and be like, ‘Great,’ and then move on. With [The Last Jedi], the conversation continues and can stir real emotions. You’re having a conversation about actual things that matter, you know?”

Isaac is certainly right that the discussion around The Last Jedi has been quite unlike any other film and to see how much people care about what happens in these movies must delight the actors involved, until, of course, fans take it too far – as has been witnessed in the recent past.
