Osgood Perkins’ The Monkey trailer breaks independent horror records

January 25, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Osgood Perkins made a big splash in independent horror with 2024’s smash hit Longlegs, and if these numbers are anything to go by, we’re in for another treat for The Monkey.

Just over a week ago, Neon released the trailer for the upcoming horror film, which became a hit. The current viewership across all platforms, including TikTok, is 109 million. The trailer received more than 43 million views in its first 24 hours and 100 million in its first 72 hours.

The figures come from WaveMetrix, which notes that this is a record for a non-MPA studio independent horror movie. Stay tuned for our reaction to The Monkey on January 31st.

Based on the Stephen King short story and produced by the master of modern horror James Wan (The Conjuring), The Monkey stars Theo James (The Gentlemen), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), and Elijah Wood (Yellowjackets) in a tale of two brothers cursed by a murderous toy monkey. Check out the smash trailer below…

When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree, forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.

Theo James stars with Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy, with Adam Scott and Elijah Wood.

The Monkey will be released in cinemas on February 21, 2025.
