Though Outlander is getting ready for its conclusion, Starz is preparing to expand the franchise with the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood and they have filled out more roles of its lead cast. Joining the series will be Brian McCardie (Time), Jhon Lumsden (Karen Pirie), Sara Vickers (Watchmen) and Peter Mullen (Ozark).
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will explore the lives and relationship of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.
McCardie will play Isaac, the leader of Clan Grant. Lumsden will play Isaac’s son Malcolm, a potential suitor for Ellen MacKenzie’s hand in marriage, Vickers will be Davina Porter, a housekeeper in the Lovat household and mother to Brian Fraser, and Mullen will star as Red Jacob MacKenzie, Laird of Clan MacKenzie and father to Ellen, Dougal, Colum, Janet and Jocasta.
Leading the series is Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest), Hermione Corfield (We Hunt Together) and Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone).
Matthew B. Roberts will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the prequel while Outlander creators Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis will executive produce. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will run for 10-episodes. Production is currently underway in Scotland.
As for the main series, Outlander will air the second half of its seventh season this November while production on its 10-episode eighth and final season is began recently and is expected to air sometime in 2025.
