Over the Top: WWI launches gameplay trailer and demo

June 7, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Flying Squirrel Entertainment, the developer behind the multiplayer shooter Battle Cry of Freedom, has released an exclusive demo for their upcoming title Over the Top: WWI in advance of the the upcoming Steam Next Fest, taking place from the 10-17th June.  A new gameplay trailer has also been released and can be seen below….

Over the Top: WWI takes players to the front lines of the first World War, where they will be able to choose which side to fight for, what weaponry to use and even whether to use heavy weaponry such as artillery and tanks. With the demo, players will have the opportunity to command troops, engage in heart-pounding combat and witness some of the horrors of the Great War.

“We are incredibly excited to showcase ‘Over the Top: WWI‘ at Steam Next Fest and share a taste of the intense, historically inspired gameplay that players can expect,” said Nico Kamps, Head designer at Flying Squirrel. “With this demo and trailer, we aim to immerse players in the brutal reality of World War I while delivering an unforgettable gaming experience.”

Over the Top: WWI will feature:

  • Massive multi or single-player battles with up to 200 players or bots fighting on the same battlefield.
  • Two single-player modes, Instant Battle and Build a Battle.
  • Multiple army branches – Infantry, Artillery, Tanks and Specialists, such as sappers.
  • Large weapon selection – 50 unique weapons, 6 different types of armoured vehicles and 10 different Artillery pieces.
  • Destructible environments.
  • Dynamic terrain allows players to dig trenches, build defensive barriers and more.
  • Fight on one of the 12 different hand-crafted battlefields, inspired by real-world places and battlefields.
  • Dynamic time of day and weather patterns mean that battles can go on into twilight and the weather can suddenly turn to rain mid-battle.
  • An in-game map editor allows players to create their own and share them through the Steam Workshop.
  • First-person or third-person views.

Over the Top: WWI will launch on Steam for PC later this year and the demo is available now on Steam.
