Paramount Pictures has closed a deal to purchase the new film from acclaimed director Alexander Payne (Sideways, Nebraska), entitled Downsizing.
Downsizing will see Payne return to Nebraska for the film, which stars Matt Damon (The Martian) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild), and will mark the third production between the filmmaker and Paramount.
The film tells the story of “an Omaha man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces them to a tiny fraction of their size…and then moves in to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world”
Payne will re-team with his regular writing partner Jim Taylor for the film, having worked together on Sideways, About Schmidt and Election, the latter of which also starred Witherspoon.
The studio is aiming for production to start next Spring, with a release around the final months of 2017.
