Paramount Pictures has fired up the engines on Top Gun 3, and are hoping to reunite the team that flew Maverick to $1.5 billion at the worldwide box-office.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is working on a script, with director Joseph Kosinski set to return for a third film in the franchise.
Paramount’s aim with Top Gun 3 is to bring back Tom Cruise alongside his new flight team that includes Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
The news comes in the wake of Tom Cruise’s headline-making ‘non-exclusive’ strategic partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, but sources say that the sequel has been in development and under-the-radar since last year.
Don’t expect take off for a few years though, because Cruise is currently filming the eighth Mission: Impossible movie, which has been delayed until 2025.
Pushed back numerous times throughout the pandemic, not only did Top Gun: Maverick turn out to be a brilliant film, but it also reignited the global box-office, overperforming to the tune of $718 million domestic, the fifth highest total of all time, and $1.48 billion total.
