Having granted a 10-episode straight-to-series order to the project last year, Variety is reporting that Paramount Network has now scrapped its plans for a TV series prequel to the 2000 crime drama Sexy Beast.
According to the trade, the series was still in the scripting stage and has been axed due to budget cuts following the Viacom-CBS merger. However, producers Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content are said to be looking to shop the package to other potential outlets.
The series has been created by Michael Caleo (The Sopranos) and would have revolved around the younger days of Gal Dove, Don Logan and Teddy Bass, who were played by Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane respectively in Jonathan Glazer’s film. Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, Destroyer) had been attached to direct.
