Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has snapped up the rights to the spy series The Saint, and is looking to launch a new franchise with producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Brad Krevoy and Robert Evans.
The Saint follows Simon Templar, “a smart, quick-witted man who went after the scourges of the Earth — corrupt politicians, war profiteers, drug runners — to benefit his country and the greater good.”
Created by Leslie Charteris, who wrote a series of novels between 1928 and 1963, The Saint spawned the classic 1960s TV series starring Roger Moore in the role of Simon Templar, as well as the 1997 movie starring Val Kilmer.
