Much like the box office and the Academy Awards, Parasite is now taking Hulu by storm. Bong Joon-Ho’s Best Picture-winning film saw its streaming debut on April 8th, premiering on Hulu exclusively. The streamer confirms to Indiewire that the film is a monster hit for them, breaking records in just one week of release.
2019’s Parasite is now the most-streamed independent or foreign language film among all titles available on Hulu, a feat that’s made even more impressive given the likes of indie hits like I, Tonya, and its own original content. Another remarkable achievement for the Korean film is its now the second most-watched movie among every current title available to stream. Yes, Parasite is beating out family films like Fighting With My Family, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and blockbusters like Creed 2 and A Quiet Place.
If you recall earlier in the year, the film’s Best Picture win marked the first time that a foreign-language film has won the biggest prize in Academy’s 92-year history. Parasite earned over $50 million at the U.S. box office and more than $200 million worldwide.
Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite will continue to stream on Hulu and will see a Criterion Collection release later in the year.
