Patrick Dempsey returns to horror after debuting in The Stuff and starring in Scream 3.
The actor is set to star in Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, based on the fake trailer the filmmaker made 16 years ago for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse. The Hollywood Reporter notes Dempsey will play the town’s sheriff but offers nothing else about the character.
Little is known about Thanksgiving, but it will reportedly follow “a slasher who comes to a small Massachusetts town with the intention of creating a Thanksgiving carving board out of the town’s inhabitants.”
Patrick Dempsey is best known for playing Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in over 200 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy but also landed a string of romantic lead roles in films like Sweet Home Alabama and Enchanted. He’ll soon star in Michael Mann’s upcoming film Ferrari as Piero Taruffi.
This project has been on director Eli Roth’s mind for quite some time; he had a script done for over ten years but couldn’t land a home for Thanksgiving until Spyglass stepped in to finance it late last year Shooting begins this March in Toronto.
