Rumours of a second helping of dark duplicity emerged almost two years ago, but now it’s official; Amazon MGM Studios are getting the gang back together for A Simple Favor 2.
According to Deadline that means Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) will return in the director’s chair, bringing with him the deceitful double-act of Blake Lively (The Shallows) and Anna Kendrick (Woman of the Hour).
That’s not all though, because the the sequel will also bring back Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack from the 2018 box-office sleeper hit.
Jessica Sharzer (A Simple Favor) has written the script, with revisions by Laeta Kalogridis (Cleopatra) and Feig. The follow-up will we see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.
Made for a paltry $20 million, A Simple Favor grossed almost $100 million worldwide, and told the story of Stephanie, a single mother with a parenting vlog who befriends Emily, a secretive upper-class woman who has a child at the same elementary school, who goes missing, forcing Stephanie to take it upon herself to investigate.
A Simple Favor 2 is set to go before cameras this spring, before debuting on Prime Video later in the year.
