Ahead of the world premiere of his latest film The Card Counter at this week’s Venice Film Festival, Taxi Driver scribe Paul Schrader is already lining up his next crime-thriller, tapping up Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver to star in Master Gardener.
Deadline reports that Schrader will direct from his own original screenplay, which tells the story of a meticulous horticulturist (played by Edgerton) who is devoted to tending the grounds of a beautiful estate and pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager (Weaver). When she demands that he take on her wayward and troubled great niece, it unlocks dark secrets from a buried violent past.

HanWay Films, who worked with Schrader on The Card Counter, will produce Master Gardener, announcing that “Master Gardener is the natural successor to the brilliant film The Card Counter which will have its world premiere tomorrow at the Venice Film Festival. Character-driven, sexy and surprising, with plenty of intrigue one would expect from a Schrader film.”
A teaser poster has already been released, which you can see below, with filming is set to get underway early next year…
