When the second season of The Mandalorian finished with a title card proclaiming that The Book of Boba Fett would be arriving in December 2021, it was speculated whether Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin might be taking a hiatus before its third season, and it seems that is indeed the case.
Appearing on Variety’s Actors on Actors alongside Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor, Pascal was asked whether he’d shot the third season of The Mandalorian, and “confidentially” responded that work is yet to begin. See for yourself here…

So, can we expect The Mandalorian to return in 2022? Well, executive producer Jon Favreau previously stated that filming on season three would begin “right after” the recently-wrapped Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett (which, according to Collider, is being referred to by sources as “The Mandalorian Season 2.5″ with numerous crossover characters). However, Pascal is due begin shooting the video game adaptation The Last of Us in July, with filming expected to last for up to an entire year, and so perhaps 2023 is a more realistic prospect?
Either way, with The Book of Boba Fett incoming in December and both Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars: Andor in production now, fans still have plenty to look forward to until The Mandalorian does make his return.
The Mandalorian season two sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Bill Burr (Mayfield), and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) joined by the likes of Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.
