Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz has signed on to play Donatella Versace in Versace: American Crime Story, the third instalment of producer Ryan Murphy and FX’s anthology crime series.
Cruz will be making her first series regular role on TV, and joins a cast that includes Edgar Ramirez as legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace and Darren Criss as his killer, Andrew Cunanan. The ten-episode limited series is scheduled to begin production in April and is slated to air in 2018, following the second season, which is based on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
American Horror Story star Lady Gaga had previously been rumoured to take on the role of Donatella Versace back in January, only for Murphy to shoot down the reports.
