Penny Dreadful: City of Angels adds Nathan Lane

February 27, 2019 by Gary Collinson

As Showtime and creator John Logan continue to fill out the cast of the upcoming Penny Dreadful spinoff/spiritual successor City of Angels, THR is reporting that Nathan Lane (Modern Family) has signed to star alongside Daniel Zovatto (Don’t Breathe) and Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) in the new series.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will take place in Los Angeles in 1938 and follows Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto) as he finds himself investigating a grisly murder which sets in motion a story that delves into the rich history of the city.

Lane is set to portray the character of Lewis Michener, a veteran LAPD police detective “who is wise to the ways of the world and ruthless in pursuit of his goals”, and serves as the partner and mentor to Zovatto’s Vega.

Production on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set to get underway later this year, with a cast that also includes Johnathan Nieves (Better Call Saul) and Jessica Garza (The Purge).
